today my new monthly visual column "Meanwhile," launched in the online magazine, The Rumpus. every month i'm hanging out with a different subculture - spending time with them as they do what they do, drawing and interviewing them. the results become a visual narrative or portrait of sorts using my drawing and the subject's own words.
this first one is on the chess players at 6th and market street in san francisco.

September 22, 2010 (pt. 2)
last weekend i had the honor of drawing a couple's wedding from beginning to end - the ceremony, surroundings, the reception, the guests, the party, the drinks, the dog. it was a challenge to say the least, and the bride and groom are far more attractive people than they appear here, but below are some of the results.
