October 12-17

i had my first drawing-related hassle the other night on the subway. i was trying to draw this guy's gold teeth. when he caught on, he demanded a copy of his portrait. this led to a loud back and forth, him holding my pencil hostage and me almost getting chopped in two as i straddled the closing subway doors trying grab it back.

always an adventure...

all images below are from the subway, save for one of john, the editor i am working with on the Congo video.

October 5-6, 2006

there are few places i've found where people avoid eye contact at all cost and sit still long enough for me to draw them, save for a nude figure drawing class and those happen but once a week and cost 20 bucks a shot. the subway in the bay area, however, costs only 3 bucks for an endless loop, and i'm obligated to ride it at least twice a day, 5 days a week. though people don't ride naked, even in berkeley, i've found their attire to be even more interesting than the "things i've seen before."

September 30, 2006. Pointilism.

a young man, the boyfriend of a young woman i work with (she introduced us), looked at this map i;ve been working and asked me, "where are you?"

exactly.

this is a map of everyone that i know - or everyone i've ever met that left some impression on me - at least enough of one that i remember them - or thery're poeple i do not know personally, but people i know speak of them so much that i feel like i know them - or people that for one reason or another i claim that i know, but really i don't.

never the less, it's April 15. past one A.M. and here we go again.
