this week, the incomparable queens of radio (and my personal heros) NPR's Kitchen Sisters, are hosting "A Week of Wendy" on their site. inspired by their multi-media radio series Hidden World of Girls, i created a new banner for each day of the week for their blog, and every day they'll feature a Meanwhile a day to go with it. you can see today's installment here.
(return to the Hidden World of Girls site every day this week for something new.)

My Life Is True is a new public radio project created by Anne Stuhldreher and DougMcGray in which people whose important stories usually go unheard share their perspectives on KQED in Northern California during NPR's Morning Edition.
I'm honored to create portraits of the participants for the site.
You can hear their stories here: My Life Is True
Pictured above: Jose Arreola, whose story about coming out as an undocumented immigrant ran this morning.

This season's new Edible San Francisco magazine (who just won James Beard Foundation Publication of the Year) is out and I got to do the cover and interior illustrations again (you can see excerpts from the last edition here). This season the magazine focused on the Potrero Hill/Dogpatch/Hunters Point/Bayview area, where i happen to live. i created a quasi-historical maplike drawing of the area's food-centric history for the cover, and drew some foodstuff from the featured neighborhood on the interior (like serpentine and slow club, black jet bakery & flora grubb). you can find the magazine in local eateries and grocery shops around SF, or subscribe here.

People have been asking if they can buy images from the Meanwhile series. Good news: I have two new prints out on 20x200 from Meanwhile, Farmers' Market Farmers. They are available in 8x10, 11x14 and 16x20, and they taste better when you buy both.
you can read about and purchase the mushrooms here.
and you can read about and purchase the vegetables here.
thanks and hope you enjoy.

i had the pleasure of working with the one and only broke-ass stuart on a piece for the bold italic that came out yesterday. happy to say it got so much traffic it crashed their server by mid-afternoon.
you can read the whole thing here.
thanks to the brilliant designer wes mitchell for making stuart's words and my pics flow so well together, and nicole grant for producing the heck out of it.

There was a very kind and generous article about my work in last week's SF Chronicle newspaper. Lots of pictures on the cover of the Datebook section. I appreciate the coverage and that the reporter, Nellie Bowles, did not spill too much about my dark, hidden past.
One correction to the piece: i do not lead graphic journos. that would be Susie Cagle. i am just honored to be a member.

Last week I put out a new Meanwhile on The Rumpus, this time about the San Francisco Public Library. It tells the story of the people who work there, what they do, and who they serve in their own words. The response has been overwhelming. I think this has more to do with the subject matter than the art (it really is an amazing place.) Thank you everyone for your interest and for sharing the story.
Below is an excerpt. You can see the whole thing here.

You can see the rest of it on The Rumpus, here.
